These works are dedicated to the victims of the Pulse nightclub shooting in Orlando, Florida.

Long story short: I was asked by Kym Register to open for Pure Bathing Culture on a tour stop at The Pinhook, the infamously LGBTQIA positive bar in Durham since forever! I was honored to play. The show was Sunday June, 12 2016.

On the 12th, in the early hours of the morning, a man killed 49 people and injured 53 more at a gay bar called Pulse. Shortly after waking, I heard the news. I couldn't play what I had rehearsed for the night ahead. I felt the weight of both the massacre itself, but also that it had happened in a place that celebrated the same values, liberties, and culture as The Pinhook.

I spent the day ruminating on the injustice and pain that so many were experiencing. I created a new, more ambient set as a sort of prayer/meditation to those affected directly and indirectly by the day's events. This piece is an excerpt from the live set I performed that night. It was a small crowd, understandably so, and it was obvious that everyone was mourning - staff, musicians, and audience.

I wanted to honor the victims of the massacre while also paying respect to The Pinhook for providing such a safe space for Durham. This was the best way I knew how to communicate my feelings without words at this particular place on this particular day. Thank you to everyone at The Pinhook, past and present.
